Carolina Rossini
I am the new International Intellectual Property Director for the Electronic Frontier Foundation (www.eff.org) and my mission in to ensure that IP-maximalists do not enclose our freedoms and the public domain through harsh civil and criminal enforcement. I founded and coordinated, since 2008, the OER-Brazil project (www.rea.net.br) - a project focused on awareness raising, capacity building, and advocacy for OER in Brazil. Since then, we have helped the growth of a exciting community of teachers, designers, software developers and more who want to build quality OER in Brazil or just understand better the world we live in and how new models of education impact on their ability to have a better quality of life. I now have an advisor role to the project, working directly with policy makers to ensure that the policy seeds we planted in many levels grow. My partners and I are free culture affictionates and we believe in the power of open and cooperation to foster innovation and democratic inclusion. I was a Harvard Berkman fellow for 2 years and I've coordinated research on industrial cooperation models, including open business models for educational resources production. I am based in California and go to Brazil 4 or 5 times per year. My first six years out of law school were spent working, in Brazil and Spain, as an in-house transactional telecom and internet policy lawyer for Terra Networks, the ISP of Telefonica. I have a LLM in Intellectual Property from Boston University (USA), a MBA from Instituto de Empresas (Spain), a Master Degree in International Negotiations from UNESCP-UNICAMP (Brazil) and a Bachelors degree in Law (JD) from University of Sao Paulo (Brazil). I have a husband that I love and admire and baby boy who was born in March 2011 - their smiles make everything worth it.
