LON-CAPA is an open-source freeware learning content management and assessment system. It links over 160 schools, departments, colleges, and universities, which share over 440,000 learning objects (including 200,000 assessment resources) with each other. Its architecture provides an end-to-end solution from cross-institutional managing, versioning and cataloging content to its deployment and course management. We will discuss experiences regarding resource sharing between courses and institutions, as well as provide an outlook how this architecture can be expanded to provide a platform for open courseware content.
